Irene Curcio - Washingtonville, NY
When I was told I had Breast Cancer, I didn't think “Why Me?” I guess I'm too much of a realist for that. I thought “What next?” I knew I had to fight it and forge ahead. And, I found a wonderful group of people to help and encourage me. And, I'm here to tell you to do the same.
I was reassured after first visiting Orange County Radiation Oncology. Dr. Mishra probably spent more time with me than any other doctor ever has. But at first, I didn't realize the extent of the difference between his center and others.
For my first couple of visits, I arrived on time, quietly slipped in and quickly rushed out as soon as my treatment was over. A couple of visits later, I heard Dr. Mishra call to me as I headed out of the lobby. “Where are you going, you always run out so quickly?” he asked. I never had a doctor that kept trying to get me to talk and ask questions. He invited me back in and we sat and talked some more.
In fact, he often came into the lobby to see me out, or to welcome other patients in, and would get everyone talking. I soon got to know all the staff and many of the other patients.
I still can't visit the office without hugs and kisses from Shanti, Dr. Mishra's wife and the practice's Medical Physicist, and Natalie, the office receptionist, and I love them all.
If one of your treatment options is radiation therapy, you have to call and visit Orange County Radiation Oncology – for a consultation, a second opinion, a reassuring voice. Whatever you want to call it, you will see the difference.
I'm a strong person and I am thankful for the loving support my family gave me, but having a group of care givers and patients who understood what I was going through made a big difference in keeping me strong and helping me beat my cancer.
I came to realize that treating cancer patients is not just what they do at Orange County Radiation Oncology, it's who they are. They saved my life.
