Everett Hunt - Wallkill, NY
When I was told I had throat cancer, I thought it was my death sentence. I imagined losing my voice box and dying unable to speak with my family.
At my first appointment with Dr. Mishra, he stayed and talked with me for several hours to make sure I understood my cancer and the treatment procedure. When we were done, I realized that the office was closed and much of his staff had gone home for the night. That was when I knew that Orange County Radiation Oncology was a special place. And, during my treatment, I got to know everyone there and they all got to know and care about me.
While treating me, Dr. Mishra found more cancer that had not been detected by my oncologist. I was losing hope and getting really depressed, and, radiation treatement 5 days a week for 7 weeks was taking a toll on my body.
At one point, I needed a feeding tube because I couldn't swallow properly. I didn't want to do anything but sleep. Most of all, I did not want to drink the Ensure they gave me. When I went to my visit with Dr. Mishra, he wouldn't let me leave his office without drinking at least 3 or 4 cans of Ensure.
When you are fighting cancer, the littlest things can push you into depression or lift your spirit and give you the hope to carry on. I honestly believe that if I had gone somewhere else, where I didn't get the attention and support that I did from Dr. Mishra and his people, I wouldn't be here today.
Finally, I want you to know that when you are told you have cancer, you can choose to be treated anywhere you want, and believe me, you want to be treated at Orange County Radiation Oncology.
I have now been cancer free for 7 years! And, I thank God every day for answering my prayers and for Dr. Mishra and his people.
